Guess what time it is? It’s ORC time!

The ONE ROOM CHALLENGE has officially started for the fall 2020 season. I’m always very excited for this challenge but this round I think I am probably the most excited I have ever been for a number of reasons! If you are new to my blog, Welcome, I’m so happy you’ve stopped by!

NOT FAMILIAR WITH THE ONE ROOM CHALLENGE

The One Room Challenge is a bi-annual event where interior designers, bloggers and design enthusiasts participate in transforming a space of their choice and blog about it every week for 6 short weeks. I will be sharing my progress every Thursday for the next 6 weeks. So be sure to watch for those weekly updates.

A HUGE thank you to Linda, from Calling it Home, who organizes this event twice a year. I can’t imagine what it takes to put this event together.

If you’ve been following me on social media you may have seen that we recently moved across country and purchased a new home…that needs some major updating. The house sits on a beautiful 2.5 acre lot which is what we fell in love with, and as a designer I wanted a home that we could make our own, so it’s not all bad. With every room needing help we truly are excited to update everything and make this our dream home.

The first space to get a makeover and my one room challenge project is…

the BASEMENT

Our new house is about 800 sq ft smaller than our previous home so we have to optimize the space we do have. The basement as it is, is not very inviting…the walls are covered in layers of drab wall paper, it has a drop ceiling that is on its last legs, the carpet is heavily stained, and there is an unpleasant odor throughout the entire space. It is dingy and uninspiring, and the majority of the family refuses to go down there. Originally we only planned to replace the flooring now, but one thing lead to another and we’ve decided to go ahead and update everything.

Let’s commence this project with some good ‘ol ugly before pictures…

These are the photos from the real estate listing…the editing makes the space look a lot better than it is.

And here are a few pics from my phone that show the reality.
